Paying for Art in Dakar: Methods, Certificate, Pickup

How to pay for a work of art bought in Dakar: Wave, Orange Money, card or in person. What comes with every sale at Ge'eza, the certificate of authenticity, and collecting or shipping after payment.

To pay for a work of art in Dakar at Ge'eza, four payment methods are available: Wave, Orange Money, card or payment in person. Once payment is made, the work leaves with a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist, and is either collected at Point E or shipped outside Dakar on request.

Available payment methods

Wave and Orange Money. The two most widely used mobile payment services in Senegal let you pay for a work remotely, once the team has given you the price and details by WhatsApp or phone.

Card. Card payment remains possible for anyone who prefers that method.

In person. If you are at the gallery, at 656 avenue Birago Diop in Point E, payment can be made on site, during the restaurant's hours, Tuesday to Sunday, 8am to 10pm.

Before paying: knowing the price and the details

Payment always comes after you have asked for the price from the artwork's page, and received a reply from the team with the useful details, technique, dimensions, condition. Prices are given on request while the list is not yet published. Take time to ask your questions before paying: once payment is made, the work is reserved for you.

What comes with payment

Every work sold at Ge'eza leaves with a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist, confirming it is genuinely theirs. Keep this document with your proof of payment, useful for resale, insurance or transport abroad. For more on what it contains, see the certificate of authenticity.

After payment: collection or shipping

Once payment is made, two options are open to you. Collecting at Point E, during the same hours as the restaurant, suits those in Dakar or passing through again soon. Shipping outside Dakar, on request for a quote, suits those heading abroad or who bought remotely, for instance after an online auction. To arrange either, write on WhatsApp to +221 78 660 07 07 or to geezacultures@gmail.com. The guide shipping artwork from Dakar covers packing, documents and what to expect from a quote.

Whichever option you choose, keep the proof of payment until the piece is actually in your hands, whether that is at Point E or at the other end of a shipment. The works currently on show can be seen on the gallery page, where each page lets you ask for a price before moving on to payment.
