Large African Paintings for an Office, Hotel or Residence

Large formats at Ge'eza's gallery, from 150 x 120 to 180 x 120 cm: 'La famille', 'Renaissance en bouquet' and other paintings, for a lobby wall, a reception hall or a living room. Distance, light and transport to plan for.

The work 'La famille' by Ibou Diagne, shown at Ge'eza's gallery

To fill a large wall, an entrance hall, a lobby or a reception room, Ge'eza's gallery offers several large formats, between 150 x 120 cm and 180 x 120 cm, by Ibou Diagne, Saadio and Tampidaro. "La famille" (the family) and "Renaissance en bouquet" (renaissance in bloom) are two examples, both currently available, with the price given on request from each page.

Why a large format changes the way you choose

A large painting is not chosen the way a 50 x 50 cm canvas for a corner of an office might be. It claims an entire wall, reads from a distance in a space people pass through, and often becomes the first thing a visitor notices on entering. This particular status makes it worth taking the time to measure the available space precisely, check the room's lighting at different times of day, and treat the painting as a lasting feature of the space rather than a simple decorative extra.

The large formats currently at the gallery

Several paintings exceed a metre and a half on one side. "La famille," an oil on canvas by Ibou Diagne, 180 x 120 cm, made in 2025, and "La foule," by the same artist, also 180 x 120 cm, an oil on canvas from 2025, are among the largest formats currently shown. "Vendeuses de poissons" and "Marché aux poissons," also by Ibou Diagne, share that same 180 x 120 cm size. At Tampidaro's side, "Renaissance en bouquet," mixed acrylic at 150 x 150 cm made in 2025, and "Totem dans la ville," same technique and same size, are among the gallery's large squares. "Seul ensemble," an oil on canvas by Ibou Diagne, 150 x 150 cm from 2021, and "Fleurs d'artifices," mixed acrylic by Tampidaro, 150 x 150 cm from 2025, round out this list of available large formats.

The page for "La famille" and for "Renaissance en bouquet" give the full technique, size, year and status of each work, with a photograph of the painting.

Where to hang a large format

A hotel lobby, the entrance hall of a residence, a meeting room or the main wall of a director's office are classic spots for a large format, provided the wall offers enough clearance on each side, ideally at least twenty centimetres, and at least three metres of viewing distance. A 180 x 120 cm or 150 x 150 cm painting loses much of its effect in a hallway too narrow for the eye to ever take in the full composition at once.

Light, a factor to plan for

Beyond the size of the wall, the natural and artificial light in a room greatly changes how a large painting reads. Raking light at the end of the day brings out the texture of an oil or mixed acrylic painting, while direct overhead lighting can create distracting glare on a varnished surface. It is worth observing the room at several points in the day before fixing the final spot for a large canvas.

Transporting a large format

A 180 x 120 cm or 150 x 150 cm painting needs reinforced packing for transport, usually a rigid crate or a flat pack protected with thick cardboard corners. This kind of transport does not suit a simple trip in a private car for the largest sizes, and a carrier used to handling artwork remains the safest option for a move across town or a shipment abroad. The gallery can arrange shipping outside Dakar on request for a quote.

Technique and care for large formats

Oil paintings on canvas, such as "La famille" or "Vendeuses de poissons," need the same care as smaller formats: avoid direct sunlight, watch the humidity, and hang away from a direct heat source such as a radiator or a sunlit window. Tampidaro's mixed acrylic paintings follow the same general rules. On a large format, a weak hanging system, such as undersized fixings, poses a real risk: it is worth planning a suspension system matched to the actual weight of the canvas and its frame.

Asking for a price and coming to see the paintings

The price of each of these large paintings is given on request from its page on the gallery, or directly on WhatsApp at +221 78 660 07 07, or by email to geezacultures@gmail.com, naming the exact title and artist. The team replies with the price, the technical details and the certificate of authenticity that travels with every work sold. The gallery can be visited without an appointment, Tuesday to Sunday, 8am to 10pm, during the same hours as the restaurant, at 656 avenue Birago Diop, Point E, a good way to judge the real effect of a large format in person before deciding.
